Shapeshifters enjoy consuming their victims. They have a craving for flesh and blood. The will hold off if necessary though, but it takes willpower. The Shapeshifter can take the form of a victim within the matter of a few seconds. If they change form, they "shed" the skin of the previous form in a nasty, mucus covered mess. If they do so, they fully heal all wounds.
Shapeshifters can maintain a form as long as they have DNA from it. As a shapeshifter has a taste for fresh flesh and blood, a shapeshifter will usually move on to its next victim a short after its killed its last one. It's unknown how long a shapeshifter can maintain its form with reintroduction of the original DNA, we just know it's not indefinite, hence why they must continue to feed from that victim or move on to another victim.
Shapeshifters are also stronger than the average person. They aren't "Superman" strong, as in lift a car and throw it. But when they punch, grapple or throw, whatever is on the other end will know it. And as you can imagine, they are pretty hardy.
Shapeshifters are easily spotted if you have a camera or some type of video recorder handy. If your cell phone has a camera, that will do. Their eyes will always glow when viewed this way. Other than that, you may not be able to tell expect without testing them with silver, which they are heavily allergic to.
Speaking of which, they are not the easiest to kill, unless you have some silver laying around. They hate that stuff and for good reason. It burns them like acid. Grab a shape silver dagger or have a silver machete made and go to town on them. Worst case, just plug them full of enough silver bullets and that will do the trick as well.
